The Golden Road by William Dalrymple
Recently read the golden road by William Dalrymple. It is a great read. It pitches the idea of a maritime golden road through which ideas flowed from India to the west and south east Asia. It challenges the established idea of an ancient Silk Road and argues that the ‘golden road ’ was much more important for trade and transmission of ideas. The main argument which is very well put is that Indic art, sciences and mathematics permeated through the golden road to south east Asia , China and Europe.
All in all it is a great read although it is not strictly chronological which may be a problem for some and sometimes try to give a bit more credit to Indian influence about some later innovations such as algebra and universities.
It is an interesting read all in all.
