Hello all. I wanted to come on here and share my story about when I first started getting panic attacks. I am mostly interested if anyone has a similar story as well.
Here goes:
For most of my life even though I grew up through a lot of stress, I never had panic attacks or even anxiety. That changed a few years ago about a few months before COVID happened. I was moving into a new house and had gotten sick. It wasn't even anything crazy from what I remember but the only strong detail I remember from that sickness was how sore my throat was. This was back when I still smoked cigarettes pretty heavily and the sore throat was bad enough I didn't even want to think about smoking.
Went to bed that evening and everything was fine. When I woke up, I immediately started having a crippling panic attack. Went to the er, they did nothing except give me a steroid shot. I then proceeded to have a about a month long panic attack. With literally no breaks in between. When one panic attack started and another ended, I couldn't tell you.
I eventually got put on Zoloft and after feeling like a zombie for two weeks the panic attacks started to loosen their grip on me. It took quite a few months to finally start to feel "normal" again. I still take the Zoloft to this day, I occasionally get a twinge of anxiety but rarely reach a full blown panic attack anymore.
The only problem is that since I started having panic attacks years ago I have gained several other symptoms throughout the years. Which I guess due to timing I have a hard time believing that the other symptoms are just anxiety. I struggle with feeling like my anxiety is just my body giving me alarm bells to a deeper problem. Some of my symptoms vary from POTS-like symptoms, migraines with aura, muscle weakness, extreme lethargy that doesn't get better with sleep, and most recently messed up periods and pretty bad hair loss (lost about 50% of my hair so far).
Also one last thing to add, my anxiety doesn't come from thoughts. I usually have some sort of physical symptoms and then that triggers the panic.
So does this sound like anyone else's story? Care to share yours?
