Compiling rumours so far (and debunking them?)
I've been waiting and waiting for the reopening and then through the mess of the very reopening, and coped with various rumours thru reddit, fb, discord etc, just thought to compile them. You could share too if you didnt see one you know of on the list.
To be fair, the last rumour before reopening that they will reopen after china's labour holidays turned out to be true. So it's not always bs.
Also customer service was replying to questions about reopening that it'll be on early may, albeit it being the same machine reply.
- (On reopening day, friday) The servers are still in a mess, devs are working overtime to fix it, including over the weekend, give it time.
- The servers are unstable, don't log in until official news comes in, or you might risk losing your account, or whatever you did after the reopening will be wiped when servers are fixed. (They could have just kicked us out of game)
- The influx of players returning to the game on their reopening is causing an overload on their servers, creating issues (like the censorship lol), and devs are having difficulty fixing it. (They could have just kicked us out of game)
- LHM's old bad habit is to fix issues before communication, that's why they aren't communicating now. (lol)
- LHM devs are rehearsing for livestream these few days. (lol)
- A third party art firm confirms thru system that important people are still in their respective roles for snowbreak, no one left.
- The game and social media is run by bots at the moment.
- The game is back to fulfill some legal requirement before announcing the dreaded news.
- Server issue is likely because it's not just censorship, game-breaking bugs and inconsistencies (some of which are found to be already existing before the long maintainence) are also causing issues for the game.
- After x time, the game will revert back to normal by devs.
- The patch after this (after release of fritia) will determine what snowbreak has really become or whether it ends there.
- They moved to singapore. (They were already registered in singapore before the fiasco happened. it's just for other purposes, payment, etc)
Observation and assumptions:
- social media post wise, no PV was made. For en side, only announcement of opening servers was made. for cn, however, a followup post about issues with certain payment methods was made a few hours after. but other than that, nothing else.
- payment methods for cn apparently resumed back to normal yesterday (monday), meaning they ARE fixing stuff, just not that stuff players are thinking of lol.
- taobao official snowbreak merch page relisted/restocked some merch, but only ones that features chibi cute artworks of the girls or merch that don't feature the girls' art, ie, controller, bags, wedding ring, etc. They actually listed payment window for the figure preorders of cherno maid and vidya. but they didn't even dare to put up the pictures of the figures, just listing it up as big words. (*buying figures on taobao's official shops for game titles is a little unique, you buy the preorder as an item, they send you a card, a nice letter or a collectible token, they tell you in x months when the figure is stock ready, you have a window to pay the rest of the fees thru their shop listings again)
- regarding the game coming back due to legal reasoning. thanks to this post by NNN_throwaway2 for the cn law excerpt: https://www.reddit.com/r/SnowbreakOfficial/comments/1t9k9ma/comment/ol4dffw/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button I don't really know if i'm understanding it correctly but main gist was that they were actually already breaking the rule by being in maintenance for more than 30 days, which means the authorities could shutter the game for good. There's alot of comments about why didn't they just stay dead, but i believe that if the game was shuttered unceremoniously by authorities, it would cause the company to have a bad record too, making them lose credibility to the authorities, making future game release processes more troublesome. So they had to come back but also comply with the censorship this time. Also they need to formally announce the end 60 days before, so at this point there's no signs of it happening.
- Official discord mods (of all languages) also could not get in contact with official / not receiving any updates from official to handle the crowd too.
- If they were "fixing the server" they could kick us out at anytime, but they aren't. and the game is actually running relatively well, apart of the fact that we can't see any eye candy.
- Longyan was previewed back during the studio's year end party or new year party, so it's not surprising she has a "true" version in the files, but that might not be true for the patch after new fritia.
That's all for now i think.
I'm really bummed out, given that i actually decided to keep sb as my main gacha after deciding to drop everything else to control spending, just for it to get beaten into this state. I wish i could say i have faith it'll go back to being what it was. but unless they move out of cn, i doubt they can do anything.
Not like they'd want to since cn is their main income. (if they do split)
