Workforce Reduction

I was hired for a company that I truly love. I did not apply for it but I was contacted by the manager. To top it off Its 100% remote which was the icing on the cake. Oh and it paid really well. Almost like a bedside nurse would get. And I was just at home. But then I got blindsided. My manager told me a year later that I was one of employees that was part of the workforce reduction. I couldnt hear what she and HR were saying but I was in shock. I was already depressed from my personal problems then here comes another one from work. I felt betrayed. I was sure I was staying there for good. Now Im even more depressed. I dont have work. I got laid off. My bread and butter gone. Im still numb as Im typing this post.

The 2026 tax shift is a slap in the face for workers.

Just saw the updated tax breakdown for the year.

The bottom 20% of earners are taking a 3.1% hit to their income share, while the top 1% are actually getting a tax decrease. It is exhausting to see the people doing the most essential work being the ones paying more while the ultra-wealthy get another break. How is this still the direction we are moving in 2026?

These 2026 tax shifts are definitely going to impact my withdrawal math.

I was looking at the 2026 tax burden shifts by income group.

For those of us aiming for LeanFIRE, seeing a 2.1% to 3.1% increase in the tax share for lower and middle income brackets is a real gut punch. It is wild that the top 1% are the only ones getting a decrease while everyone else is paying more. I might have to adjust my 2026 budget to account for this.
