Seeking Leather restoration tips
I recently purchased a failed flip leather armchair. I noticed the arm rests had some attempted repairs, but upon closer inspection the whole chair is covered in a spray coat. I started pulling at the loose paint and it came up pretty easily, and the leather underneath is in relatively good shape. I did stop once I hit damage, as I want a clear plan before proceeding.
I have extensive experience in leather care but not restoration. After some google searches my plan was to use 70% isopropyl or a deglazer like Angelus, have some glue ready for any tears (not anticipating anything significant), use a colored condition balm for the suede patches/all around, and condition liberally with brick 4 to combat dryness from stripping. id rather have a well loved piece that shows some wear and feels like leather than the nasty acrylic coating, but my biggest goal is to avoid further damaging the piece.
Advice is greatly appreciated. I’m mostly stuck on the best method for safely removing the paint - is there a preference on solvent?
