Need advice: Affordable Mass Comm / Filmmaking path in India (Confused about what to choose)
Hey everyone, I really need some guidance right now.
My goal is to get into filmmaking eventually. For that, I was planning to pursue Mass Communication because of wider career options and is somewhat related to filmmaking (camera work, media exposure, etc)
However, I come from a situation where I can’t afford very expensive colleges for my bachelor’s, especially since I also need to plan financially for my master’s later on.
So right now, I’m trying to figure out:
Which affordable but reputed colleges for Mass Communication (BJMC or similar) offer:
• Good exposure
• Industry connections
• Practical learning
I was initially considering colleges like AAFT (Noida) or GKFTII, but I’m not fully sure if they’re the right choice.
Also, someone suggested that instead of BJMC, I should go for something more technical like Visual Communication / Design, as it might be more useful for filmmaking.
But here’s my problem:
• I already took a drop year
• I didn’t give exams like NID/DAT (which happen earlier in the year)
• I don’t want to wait another year
• Private design colleges are also very expensive
So I feel stuck between:
• BJMC (more accessible but maybe less technical)
• Design/Visual Communication (better for filmmaking but not accessible now)
My long-term plan:
• Do my bachelor’s from an affordable college
• Then try for master’s from institutes like FTII Pune
But I’m also worried:
What if I don’t get into FTII?
And I still can’t afford expensive film schools later?
So I’d really appreciate advice on:
What should I choose right now (BJMC vs something else)?
Affordable colleges with good exposure in media/film
A realistic backup plan if FTII or top film schools don’t work out
I’m feeling really confused and short on time, so any guidance would honestly help a lot.
Thanks in advance 🙏
