Rolling media cart project, phase 1: component list

Only took me one night to see the truth lol.

TLDR; need advice on which consoles to acquire to minimize redundancy and keep as minimal as possible. Currently have: PC, OG Xbox, Switch OLED, Series X, Analogue 3D (n64), Dreamcast, 360 on the way. I want to make sure I'm making the best decisions with respect to the VT60 and it's capabilities, hence posting it here.

Plan is to emulate everything pre n64 and then try and double up on devices where I can, for example a back compat PS3 can handle the full ps2 and ps1 libraries, from what I understand, and so can a modded Wii U (for Wii and GC).

I have always had a plan to build a rolling media cart that had a flat panel mounted and all of my systems and peripherals (controllers/guitars/etc) neatly organized onto it, all neatly wired and routed properly, using whatever matrix and connections necessary.

The goal is only one cable comes out of it, which is the main power cable. Unplug that, release the casters and can move it anywhere I like.

My new 60" Vt60 has convinced me to drop the OLED altogether (I'll still have an LG 5k2k as my main monitor).

Depending on if I find a ready made piece of furniture that I can mod to suit, or if I have to build something from scratch, here's a list of potential components:

Cart:
VT60
-Consoles: Switch, OG Xbox, Xbox 360, Analogue 3D, Wii U, PS3, Series X, PS5, steam machine.

-2-4x controllers each, this will amount to a ton of hardware, wondering if some model of controllers can pull double duty and if they can be easily recognizable between systems, based on which one is powered on.

-Guitars (Debating which ones and for which system, unless it's not optimal to just get PC compatible ones and emulate all the guitar hero games along with clone here).

-Light guns? not sure if these work with plasma. I've seen some solutions meant to work with LCD screens, like gun 4 IR and such. Idk.

Questions:

Will a phat backwards compatible PS3 sufficiently run PS2 titles? I've read it's just fine, but would like to know if anyone has experience using HDMI on PS3 on plasma in general, but also for PS2 titles. Are we losing anything? Do we need anything?

Same question for Wii U. I know they're fully compatible with Wii games and homebrew lets you play the full GC catalog with backups, but I have no experience here. My instinct is to go Wii U for the HDMI connection, but anyone with experience please tell me why or why not, or if a Wii with an HDMI mod is better?

Obviously will need an HDMI matrix of some sort, is there any particular spec that is better for the 1080p plasma, given that I'm also connecting modern sources?

Do I need a bluray player, or is the ps3 generally regarded these as a pretty good one, like it used to be? Always wanted one of those sony 400 disc changers, but seems a bit overkill.

Audio, I'm a total noob here. Is there a pair of nice retro woodsy aesthetic speakers that I can simply run out from the TV? Or will I need a separate receiver given all the inputs? Can a matrix handle that?

Bit more advanced question, I'll need a way to keep all of the peripherals charged, but not over charged. I wonder if there's some sort of mega USBC charging station that can "trickle charge" a dozen or more controllers at once.

Will probably need a network switch of some sort, as I don't prefer to do wifi if I can help it, so I guess that makes two wires connected to the wall.

The utility for my use case would be, I am building my own office/gaming room where I will have my main PC, work computer, some work equipment on one wall, was going to mount a 65" oled on the adjacent wall, and then a small foldout couch (for when im in the dog house) on the wall across from it. My room is relatively small. It will be MY space, and I don't want the kids or even friend or family in there with me, but at the same time, my friend and fam and hopefully kids as they get older love to play all these games and multiplayer split screen local gaming just hits different. So I want to be able to roll it out seamlessly and have a nice experience and give it to the boys once they're older, shamelessly projection my dreams onto them, only for them to not care at all in favor of some AI/VR slop nonsense that I'm sure will be out in a few years that they'll be much more into.

VT60 ascension!

Ohhhhh myyyy.
I’m blown away. I have several oleds at home. An nz9 projector for a screening room, very nice qd oled monitors, nothing gave me as much instant satisfaction as this thing did tonight.

Plugged in a switch oled, OG Xbox with hdmi hard mod and a series x.

Switch looks so good! I had tried in on my Sony a80j. Just not enjoyable. Something always felt off. It didn’t upscale properly to 4k, motion blur, and the colors just felt not amazing. I even got one of those in line plug in upscalers that everyone swears by. Did not see much benefit and it made everything considerably darker.

Plugged it into the vt60 using an aftermarket hdmi dock. Changed the picture profile to thx cinema and turned on game mode. Nothing else. Booted up Star Wars Pod Racer to really see if I noticed a difference in motion clarity and oh my days it’s amazing! So fluid. The colors pop. Everything was so so smooth and I guess the native 1080p on a 1080p screen makes a huge difference. I just assumed the oled would’ve been able to do a better job upscaling.

Played Mario kart. Same experience.

Then switched over to my modded Xbox and played some halo. It was auto stretching to 16:9 because of the hdmi I’m guessing but I changed it to 4:3 and it was pretty enjoyable. Didn’t mind the side bars. Had an older save file which was on the truth and reconciliation map and figured that was perfect to see. Panning around with the sniper in the opening sequence was so buttery smooth. The different hues of purple and plasma fire and grenades all looked so sharp and clean. I died more than once just kind of in awe as the plasma gunner fired directly at me. The shadows and low light areas in the night map were very well represented. Again, I’d tried it on the oled and it just…. Sucks at upscaling gaming consoles like this.

Didn’t even get to the series x but tomorrow I’ll see how it is. Can’t wait.

I’m so pleased. Building out a gaming room for myself and was going to put a 65” a80j on the wall that I had spare but I think the 60” vt60 is going to take the cake. Might even make it my default for the eventual steam machine and use that as a 1080p box and just crank up the details as much as it can handle instead if the resolution.

Modded 360 and ps3 on the way as well.

6k hours on it. $350 locally on fb. I think I “overpaid,” but damn best money I’ve spent in a while. Hardly anything makes you giddy like a kid anymore but this did it for me.
