It all started with a tow bill we received under our name, after we called the towing company, we were informed that a vehicle we sold to Lynnwood Carmax back in 2019 (with all valid copies of documentations including that signatures of the notary) is still under our name as the registered owner.
After some back and forth emails, Carmax admitted that they DID NOT file a report of sale to the WA DOL, nor transfer ownership from Carmax to the new buyer of theirs. They only filed the report of sales after we informed them via email. In one of the email, they also released us from being responsible for the tow bill by stating that we “sold us (meaning Carmax) the vehicle in 2019”.
Since the tow bill is time sensitive (there’s a variable cost per day in addition to a fixed tow cost, also it will be auctioned and the bill will be sent to collection agencies), I contacted them again for an update after they ghosted 2 of my emails for a week. And what now? They said they will have us contact their legal department, effectively voiding what they said about releasing us from being the responsible party of the tow bill.
I once trusted Carmax, but I’ll do what I can to avoid the dealership after this. You may or may not see an update as this is possibly going to the civil court.
