My first go at dyeing bed linens in the washing machine
Wanted to share this success after reading quite a few threads on here to know what to expect :)
So I started off with two pretty white ruffled pillowcases from the bargain bin of a thrift store that had yellowed a bit, and a light blue duvet cover. Both were supposedly 100% cotton but I suspected that the embroidery on the pillowcases was in fact polyester. So I went for a light ice blue color for them, and a deep blue for the duvet cover. I'm based in the Netherlands and used dyes from Aybel suitable for natural fibers. First had a go at the pillowcases at 60°C and when they turned out well, I went for the duvet cover, at 90°C. I have a top loader washing machine so it felt kind of scary not to see what was happening. I did pause the machine once during the cycle and tried to stir a bit. Pleasantly surprised that the lacing detail of the duvet cover took the dye so well. I'm afraid this will make me see even more potential in all the fabric at the thrift store, haha!
