I kept seeing people say Project Hail Mary is one of Ryan Gosling’s best movies, so I wanted to see what the hype was about. The other day I went to watch Project Hail Mary with my parents.
I had already seen edits and reviews all over my feed, so I was curious. Without spoiling too much, I thought it was really interesting how the movie builds this idea that the world is slowly coming to an end, and they send a scientist into space to try to fix it. What stood out to me the most was how he ends up forming a relationship with this rock like alien, and watching that connection grow even though they cannot really communicate at first.
I like movies that tie into science, so this really worked for me. I also feel like the target audience for this kind of story is people who enjoy science-based movies, since a lot of the appeal comes from the science and problem-solving. After the movie, my parents and I talked about it, and I said I liked how it showed that even without a shared language, people or beings can still connect and build real friendships. It kind of reminded me of Interstellar with the whole science fiction vibe.
On the other hand, my mom thought it was just weird. Her point was, how are we supposed to sympathize with a rock?
I guess both views make sense, but I am curious what you guys think?
