When Masumi depersonalizes, she fades away. When Deconstructa arises, she comes out of the water, at exactly the same place every time.

The human form of Masumi is a projection. When she's depressed, that projection fades away. Masumi's true form is Deconstructa, like the Hex.

This also explains why Etienne says they can't just kill Masumi. If they kill the projection, it's just depersonalizating her immediately.
