Electronic sway bar disconnect question

Finally played around with my JLUR sway bar disconnect option this past weekend. Shifted into 4H and hit the disconnect button, sway bar disconnected after a few seconds as expected. Pulled up onto this rock, stopped, pulled the E break (manual transmission), shut it off and got out to admire the stock flex with the sway bars disconnected. After a few minutes of taking pictures and picking on myself for being so excited for something so simple, I jumped back in, started it up and the sway bars immediately tried to reconnect. I quickly threw it into reverse and backed off the rock in a mild panic that something might get damaged with the system trying to reconnect while fully articulated... The sway bars did end up completing the reconnect (without any input from me) after backing off the rock.

This left me with 2 questions:

  1. Why did the system automatically attempt to reconnect the sway bars? Is this a standard thing with shutting it off and restarting while the sway bars are disconnected? Seems like a really bad design if so... I know that they will reconnect automatically if you go over a certain speed.
  2. Could this have potentially damaged something if I didn't quickly react to the dash telling me it was "Attempting to reconnect sway bar" as soon as I started it up and backed down off of the rock? Sorry, I'm a newb with off roading.
