Giant vs Death of a Salesman?

I’ll be in New York next week and have lost count of how many versions of my schedule I’ve been through because I simply cannot bring myself to part with any of the shows I want to see (which is all of them).

My itinerary has been solidifying though, and at this point I only have one spot left and four shows to choose from (Death of a Salesman, Giant, Lost Boys, and Ragtime).

I would really love to see the spectacle of Lost Boys. I’m a little less interested in Ragtime because I’ve heard there’s not much production value. (I’m also interested in Hadestown, Stranger Things, Maybe Happy Ending, etc. but really trying to focus on new shows with the original casts intact since I already don’t have time for everything.)

However, all but one of the other shows I’m seeing are musicals (I’m currently booked for Schmigadoon, Two Strangers, Chess, Oh Mary, and Titanique), so I think I’ll pick between the two plays.

I’m completely torn between the two. I’ve heard the performances in both are amazing.

My concerns would be if Death of a Salesman might be too long on a two show day (and it’s in a bigger theater with balcony views that aren’t quite as good), and if Giant might be dampened by the current political climate given that I’ve heard it deals with Israel quite a bit and isn’t necessarily the most graceful about it.

I’m still kicking myself for not buying stage seats for Every Brilliant Thing when they were $168 now that they’re $900 since it’s Daniel Radcliffe’s second to last performance…

Given how much discourse the balcony scene has caused, I think people should get comfortable with the idea that Rachel Zegler probably won’t be coming out to stage door during Evita’s run in New York.

Yes, I know she did it in London. It’s safer for her there, and she still had that unfortunate interaction with someone yelling at her bodyguard.

Now imagine an even more chaotic city with higher security concerns.

I would be very surprised if she does. (And that’s fine. Nobody is entitled to it. I just foresee lots of chatter on here.)

From today’s announcement of Evita transferring to Broadway in Spring 2027:

Jamie Lloyd said, “I was completely overwhelmed by the incredible response to Evita in London. It is an honor to work with Tim and Andrew, and I’m looking forward to revisiting the production with Rachel, whose stellar performance continues to inspire me. When we started discussing a New York production, it became apparent that our Palladium staging of ‘Don’t Cry For Me Argentina’ would not be possible. I am really excited to explore a new idea, made especially for Broadway.”

I know this has been alluded to before, but now it’s confirmed, right in the announcement. No outdoor balcony.
