Which is easiest/safest (in person)? Link or the QR code (and what’s the difference between the one-time QR code and the ‘permanent’ one?)

New-to-me iPod Classic (7th Gen). around 80GB of music on there. I'd like to a) reset the iPod and b) keep *some* of the music. I'm on a Mac and I know how to view all the hidden 'F' folders and 'XXXX.mp3' files - but of course I don't know what their real names are. Is there any way to do this? I estimate I'll keep about 10 or 20% of the music (no space to copy across all).
