Hey folks, could use some advice from people who’ve seen how this plays out internally.

I’m an SDE (L5) and was put on focus ( never got an official mail, but i confirmed with my manager verbally ) due to internal politics. Around the same time, I’ve been away from work ( LOA) for a few months.

Today, a manager from a sister team reached out to me on slack saying my LinkedIn showed “Open to Work.” I had it on (probably accidentally public), but I’ve fixed that now.

I’m trying to figure out how to navigate this situation and respond to the manager:

  • I am interested in exploring other teams (this could be a reset opportunity)
  • I haven’t told anyone about my situation, though team members might have figured it out.
  • Concerned that if this manager is interested, he might backchannel with my current manager and find out I’m on focus
  • Not sure how early HM-to-manager conversations typically happen at Amazon in these cases

Questions:

  • Do hiring managers usually check with your current manager before any serious conversation?
  • Is it possible to explore a team discreetly without things getting back?
  • Has anyone successfully switched teams while on focus or in a similar situation?
  • At what point does your current manager inevitably get looped in?

Trying to be thoughtful here and not make things worse while still keeping options open.

Appreciate any insights on how should i take it forward.

I have been mentally exhausted and planning to continue my leave. Do you or anyone you know been terminated while on medical leave of absence ? I'm nearing the end of my 6 months and still do not feel better, my health care provider is ready to support my claim. I'm pretty sure i will be let go as soon as i join back so looking at options for long term disability leave. I still haven't utilized my accrued leaves. Can i use those ?

Has anyone been out on long term leave for mental health at Amazon ? what happens to your Benefits/RSU/Salary ? what has been your experience ? and how to proceed with it.

Any advice is highly appreciated.
