Some practical advice regarding naming conventions for children, based on the administrative challenges posed by modern identification systems both at a national and international level.
While naming your children, I strongly recommend avoiding the use of initials before, after, or in the middle of the name. Official documents such as PAN cards and passports generally do not accept initials. While Aadhaar technically allows them, the PAN card must match the Aadhaar for various financial processes, including opening online demat accounts and creating mutual fund folios.
The current administrative trend suggests a preference for the "FIRSTNAME SURNAME" format. To ensure your child's future life is simpler—especially if they plan to study or work abroad or invest in financial instruments—it is best to ensure their name is consistent across their birth certificate, Aadhaar, SSLC certificate, passport and all other documents in this standard format.
While it is unfortunate that global and national systems are not always receptive to diverse naming conventions, maintaining a homogenous name format will ultimately make your child's life much easier.
If your child is studying in 10th grade or lower, name change is very easy. After SSLC certificate is issued, it's very hard to change after that.
