I've been collecting feathers for about a year and I've noticed that some of them started to fray in a weird way and gain small holes. My process for cleaning/disinfecting is to give them a bath with soap and put them in my freezer (-21°C) for 2 days, 1 day out and put them again in the freezer.

I generally keep them in a book cabinet but some in bags for temporary storage. I've been thinking about switching to a wooden box so the sun wouldn't get to them as much, but I don't know if that's a good idea.

What am I doing wrong?
