Is this part metal or plastic? Brand new Sienna and dealer said its plastic and not rust.
We picked up our new Sienna, 2026 LE AWD 8 Pass in heavy metal(incase your wondering) and a few days in I noticed these spots. On both sides when you open the sliding door there is a small like cavity before the step. The area where the door slide goes. Anyways I went back to the dealership, went to service and the manager was like "im not sure if we can fix that" and then had a tech look at it. After about 10 mins he comes back out and says its a plastic cover and is just cosmetic.
While I agree the larger blemish are most likely clear coat, in photo two that looks like under paint bubbling. Also it feels like metal/ is magnetic in my testing (maybe grabing a peices being but cant say for sure)
TLDR: Does anyone know for sure if this is plastic? Should I push to get this fixed? I want to make sure its documented so waiting for the dealer to email me the invoice from today for my notes.
