I'm not typically one to say "blank ruined blank" for me, but I have to ask; does anyone else here find it hard to return to assembling or buying miniatures "as is" ever since discovering kitbashing?
Even if a mini looks really cool and I genuinely like it, I can't help but look at it and think, "It's cool, but how could I make it mine?" I've developed this mindset where I ask myself why I should buy and assemble a mini that came from someone else's imagination when I can make or alter a mini into something that's unique to me.
Is this normal?
Made from a mix of Krieg and Arbites bits!
Newcomer to Mordheim here!
I have an undead warband in the works, and while I wasn't originally going to write any backstory for them--mostly because my understanding of Mordheim/Warhammer lore is very spotty--I ended up coming up with at least a skeletal idea.
If there's any lore heads here who want to lend their knowledge of the setting to help solidify this backstory, it would be very much appreciated! I plan on using some AoS models, including some Bonereapers for the dregs and some ghost dude for the Necromancer, and I kinda wanted to work in their unconventional appearances into their lore as well.
Again, this is a rough first draft. Here it is, without further adieu...
---
Fritz, Ren, and Marius were once nothing more than grave robbers; plundering crypts and catacombs of their riches. One day they discovered a particularly gloomy yet lavish tomb, with gold and gems galore. Thinking they had made their fortunes, they got to work pilfering the various ancient trinkets and glittering baubles of this nameless tomb. When they opened the main sarcophagus, however, everything took a turn for the worst.
This was no ordinary tomb. This was the lair of a sinister vampire, Count Calligan von Arkenwald. The three grave robbers had awakened the blood drinking fiend, and he was none too pleased to find his domain being stripped of his belongings.
Fritz, Ren, and Marius prostrated and begged for their lives. Count Arkenwald spared them; but not out of pity or compassion. Rather, he had the presence of mind and ruthlessness to see that these three dregs of men could serve him well. Encasing them in armor of living bone, he conscripted them into his household, sparing their lives in exchange for indentureship.
The Count’s long sleep had been teemed with dreams and visions of a great catastrophe that was soon to erupt. Ever the opportunist, Arkenwald was intent on collecting on the chaos that would ensue from this catastrophe, and deigned to become the most powerful vampire in the known world.
But the Count was not the only one having visions. His awakening had caught the attention of a necromancer named Brecht. Brecht had a lair of his own of which he rarely left; a forgotten castle near the city of Mordheim. With his undead servants in tow, Brecht made his way to the city, sensing Count Arkenwald’s presence nearby.
When the fateful comet struck Mordheim, Brecht was caught in the blast. Trying to preserve himself with his own necromantic abilities, he survived, but not without a price. His form was forever changed, flickering in and out of corporeality. Now he serves Count Arkenwald in hopes that the strange magic stones littered across Mordheim can return him to a purely physical existence.
Who here kitbashes for its own sake and just likes to make little dudes and dudettes? Alternatively, who here kitbashes with the intent that the final result will make it to the gaming table? Or does it depend on the project you're currently working on?
Personally, while I don't always have a specific game in mind, I like to kitbash with the hope that the resulting mini with eventually be used in a game. It may start out as mostly a vanity project, but I try to keep in the back of my mind what kind of games the model could be used in at some point.
As per many of your suggestions, I've declared this weird little dude an inquisitorial crusader. Thank you all for the many comments and upvotes from the last post!
My lore-fu is weak lol. What would this be?
