Booklive.jp: COMING SOON!
(Expect MAJOR spoilers from chapter 38 in the following recap, of course)
Last time on Zatch Bell 2... After having successfully infiltrated Bamfro Castle and made their way to the treasure trove of spell vials in search of Canchome's father's Poruku spell, Gash, Kiyomaro, and co. found themselves in dire straits as a pair of formidable Cards blocked the way into the vault... a swordsman named Bast sporting a spell-cleaving blade, and a perky girl named Day who brandished a large, ghastly manifestation of what appears to be an older version of Patty. Crestfallen by the fact that his adoptive mother's techniques are being used for evil, Belgim E.O. charged into these new adversaries, only to be quickly overwhelmed by their effective teamwork. As Gash and Tio moved in to lend him a hand, Belgim's resolve began to weaken... until Kiyomaro rekindled the fire in his soul and reminded him of what they stand to gain by winning this battle. With his mind set on reviving Patty, Belgim caught his second wind and advised Dalia to stand back so he could really go all-out. She ended up doing so, but not before sharing a few heartfelt words, implying that the familiarity of their partnership together is starting to jog her memory from over a decade ago when they last fought side-by-side. Meanwhile, Brago, Canchome, and Choral Q were in the process of interrogating the now-dominated legion of demon traitors who guarded the entrance to the castle, when far off in the distance, an undead new addition to the Zebritt siblings awoke from within an open casket, with Leeza seated right next to him. After being mocked by their ally duo for being down in numbers, this new Zebritt decided to slaughter them and even a demon servant with malicious zeal as he gleefully awaited Brago's inevitable arrival from sensing the disappearance of so many lives. The unnerving aura this new foe gives off was enough to send a chill even down Brago's spine as he demanded that Choral Q pinpoint their location and then immediately trudged off in that direction with Sherie in tow and an ax to grind. At the same time, Kiyomaro had run a plan of attack by the others in the battle with the vault gatekeepers and instructed Belgim to pressure the enemy with a combination of heavy firepower and accelerated movement. It seemed like the plan was going to work, until Belgim allowed his emotions to get the better of him, and stopped obeying Kiyomaro's commands in the heat of the moment. This proved to be a fatal blunder, as Bast took full advantage of the lapse in teamwork and landed a lethal blow on our favorite boisterous mummy, slashing him straight across the chest.
I think we can all agree that this was a brutal cliffhanger for a hiatus! Brago's new nemesis is looking fierce, and Day and Bast continue to be a colossal threat with talents and techniques that Kiyomaro still hasn't quite pieced together yet. So let's see what we can all get excited about before this upcoming Wednesday arrives!
- The first question that's probably on all of our minds right now is whether Belgim is actually okay right now or if he's suffered an injury so severe that he has to be sidelined for the rest of the fight. Considering how the cliffhanger played out, it's not very likely that the attack was enough to kill him, but it may have left some lasting damage. Do you think it'll be enough cause for Tio to break out Saifojio in the middle of the battle?
- The mysterious and aggressive Zebritt sibling we've just been introduced to appears to be quite a fan of Brago's. For that to be the case, does that mean this character was alive no more than 27 years ago when Brago was around? He almost seems to be a spiritual successor to Zillion, the other Zebritt sibling who yearned for the chance to fight Brago. Could there be some sort of connection there?
- A little strange that we still haven't seen the drill sergeant character who led all of the traitorous demons into the lion's den, so to speak. Could he be still out there somewhere waiting for the right moment to strike, or do you think that was most likely just a one-off appearance?
- The fact that Bast's sword is able to slice right through Ma Seshirudo like a hot knife through butter is definitely noteworthy, and it seems as though there's nothing that blade can't cut right down the middle. Could it be made of some material similar to the control room structures inside of Faudo's brain, neutralizing any and all magic it comes into contact with? And if so, do you think Tio's physical strength will need to come into play here in order to disarm him of that game-breaking weapon?
- Kiyomaro is baffled as to how Bast is able to perfectly stand his ground no matter what comes his way. Nothing makes him flinch or stumble, and his strikes are always perfectly executed. Do you think this has something to do with the sword he's using or could it be tied to some other element of his character?
- When Day and Bast first appeared, Bast was holding some sort of egg-shaped object with a handle and allowed it to drop and bounce away when he was ambushed by our heroes. Any ideas on what that could have been and whether it might come up again in the fight at some point?
- Bast is reveling in the battle but Day knows better than to underestimate their opponents given their reputation. Do you think that means Day is more likely to pull out all the stops in this fight before Bast does? Do you think there's a good chance that the Suou Giakuru spell might be inside that vial since the water dragon was alluded to in the previous chapter in regard to Patty's bracelet?
- Do you think Brago will be able to single-handedly defeat this deranged new Zebritt sibling? Or will this guy prove to be too much for him and Sherie to handle alone?
- Umagon and Sunbeam are still missing in action, despite having been recruited for the mission a few chapters ago. Could this be the chapter where they finally break into the battle as reinforcements when things look bleak for our heroes?
- When all is said and done, do you think Day and/or Bast may defect from Beliel's forces? Or is this seemingly elite pair one example of Beliel's more emotive henchmen who will stay true to their master until the end?
