tldr at the bottom

i got some tips about some Everlast Powerlocks (Powerlock 1, I think) on sales at a local thrift store for $20 a pop, my ass was like im buying that idc if fake or real, it looks good enough for me.

Anyway the 14 oz white and gold laceup is what I actually use, the red ones I bought for a friend.

Anyway so first time sliding on the gloves, I thought my fist wasnt flat and a bit awkward, couldnt fully make a "proper one". It felt like the grip bar was a in terms of positioning lil off compared toy RFX Guerreros and my Mk1 Selects. So i had had some concern. Striking surface looks a bit rounded too so a bit of concern there.

thumb positioning felt a bit off too, like not exactly wrong but not comfortable. something a bit off and jammy.

Wirst support felt rlly good off the jump tho, and palm was actually easy to open surprisingly, so actually might be good for catching punches. Size ig would be on the medium, a bit smaller than my 16 oz mk1 selects which makes sense for 14 oz.

Anyway I took them to the gym for some partner drills and bag work (gonna keep these for mostly minimal contact drillings and probably just enough bag work to wear them in a bit more, probably light technical bagwork only as well, no unga bungaing, i might fuck up my thumb)

ok so feel wise punching was alright, nothing too bad, again wanna say wrist support rlly good. catching punch was satisfying as hell tho.

oh and leather feels a bit thin and plasticky, idk exactly if its real or synthetic tho, just throwing that out too.

Surprisingly when i hit the bag i was able to land knuckles properly (whereas my mk1 selects were actually quite puffy until i had worn them in after a bit of heavier more frequent use). so yeah not bad. the crack on the bag wasnt the most satisfying but protection feels adequate and fist felt decent enough. i think its strong suit is the open palm and wrist protection, my wrist was so well aligned when i was punching bag that i can still land knuckles properly despite the puffy punch surface and not fully closed tight fist.

the thumb isnt super noticeable in actual use but sometimes its a bit tight, just a bit funky.

oh and pad feels protective, kinda soft-ish or at least feels worn in, not like i have to wear them in like my rival hdef or even my mk1 selects. definitely meant to be more productive like u cant punch through it tho. i might have to wear it in a bit more to rlly see. i think once i get a bit more rounds in theyd be good.

theres some concerns regarding build quality tho, everlast and all ya know. a bit of the stitching on the lace track at the cuff was kinda fraying after a singular use. OH yea fyi kinda related everlast Handwraps also kinda sucks, i bought some and literally after one use it was fraying, and its a bit stiff too, dont buy everlast handwraps lol. anyway back to the gloves, literally one time use and already a bit of fraying stiches is a concerning, but the padding and leather remains to be tested. might or might not update later welll see.

not to play in the neverlast meme but i think the padding and leather are definitely a tier or two behind my mk1s and guerroros in terms of durability. they feel like they could be ok but

overall decent product, i cant complain especially for only $20, the amount i paid for these. I think these feel like they still be worth it up until around $100-$140 gloves tho. (CAD btw, so like 60-100 usd).

anyway I have zero reference what Powerlock 2 or the new Powerlock OGs are like but im guessing these would be similar. someone in the comments could do a three way comparison ig.

TDLR:

super duper good wirst support

ok fist, still able to land with knuckles but not ideal imo

thumb positioning a lil funky

nice open palm

kinda a bit suspect padding and leather quality

softish but protective, not punch throughable

some fraying stiches
