Update on the granny square blanket

Update on the granny square blanket

I decided that I wasnt a big fan of the dragon scale stitch border that I was doing (I think that it would've looked better with a thinner yarn), so I frogged it and am now going to try the lemon peel stitch instead and maybe do a round of shell stitches after that. Should I do both of those in the white aran yarn that I used for these granny squares, or should I try to find a black aran yarn and use that aswell?

Also, does anybody know of any good video tutorials for both the lemon peel stitch and the shell stitch? I mostly use UK terms.

I went into Hobbycraft to pick up an order for 1 skein of yarn to finish a blanket and...

I came out with 5. Yes, I might have a bit of a problem. But, in my defense, I do have a plan for almost all of them.

Picture 1 will be used to finish the blanket and maybe make some doilies or bandana or something.

Pictures 2 and 4, will be used to make an amigurumi creature. I don't think I've ever used super chunky yarn before, so that very much depends on how I get on with it.

Picture 3, will probably be used to make a bandana, but I haven't fully decided on that one yet.

I have no idea what to do for picture 4, but I do have a book full of patterns for crochet plants, so I could use it for that.

Does this look like a dragon scale stitch part 3

I think I've got it right this time. Also, potentially stupid question, but how do I know if I've turned my work upside down?

Does this look like a dragon scale stitch part 2

Someone commented on my last post that I was going into the two stitches, and not around them, so I redid the stitch that I had done. Does it look more like a dragon stitch now? Also, can someone please explain to me why the tutorials for this stitch say that I have to turn my work upside down and then rightside up constantly?

Does this still look like a dragon scale stitch?

Every video that I watched on how to do this stitch said that I had to turn the project upside down, then do 4fptr in the same stitch, then turn it rightside up again, ch1 and do another 4fptr in the next stitch. I didn't see why turning it around was important, so I skipped those parts and just did 4fptr in the same stitch, ch1, 4fptr in the next stitch and did a slip-stitch in the next chain space and it looks like a dragon scale to me.

What do you all think? Should I redo it? I've only done one stitch on this round so far, so I wouldn't mind if I had to, but I didn't see the point in constantly having to turn this blanket upside down and then rightside up again.

Has anyone else ever experienced this?

I am currently crocheting a border for a granny square blanket (photo 1) and decided to use the dragon scale stitch as the oustide of the border (the white part) and the star stitch as the inside (the brownish-red part).

I wasnt even halfway through the round that I'm currently on, before realising that I had about this much yarn left (photo 2). I panicked, then ripped the corner of the room where I found this yarn apart and celebrated when I found two more cakes of it (photo 3). Then I panicked again about it still not being enough, so just to be extra safe, I ordered another skein on Hobbycraft that the app says weighs about 250g (if I remember correctly).

Now I just need to worry about what to do if there will be any spare yarn after I've finished the blanket? I was thinking about making doilies or something, but I don't know if they'll work with aran yarn like this one?
