I’m really interested in trying to learn this skill. I have never tried before.

I’m wondering what knife/knives are good for someone starting out please? I live in rural Thailand so many brands that are common to you may not be available here. But I can definitely buy Opinel knives. Are they suitable? If so which size?

I’m looking at buying a sharp pocket knife for every day use such as opening parcels, cutting cardboard and plastic banding straps, thin plant stems and also I’d like to try some wood carving/whittling.

I have average size hands.

What size Opinel would suit best please? I was thinking No8, but would a 6 be better for whittling?
