Honestly, this is one of those stories that tries way too hard to be “realistic,” and it ends up feeling really pretentious. All that supposed realism just makes me uncomfortable instead of actually interested

And yeah, you could say “but it’s realistic” sure, but then the author takes weird creative liberties like… uh, a harem in medieval Europe? (that made me uncomfortable)

Or allowing a woman to be a knight and hold a title? (doesn’t really fit with the supposedly realistic misogyny in the story)

Also, the main couple just gives me the ick.

In the end, it feels like one of those stories that tries to come off as deep and realistic but ends up worse than ones that are just vaguely based on medieval Europe. Because it tries…and fails.

Look, I didn’t even want to remember it, but I saw it being recommended and couldn’t help myself.
