Flight Lead Fundamentals #6 — Turn Your 4-Ship Into a Weapon

Hey guys,

New Flight Lead Fundamentals episode is up.

This one is about delegation: how a flight lead turns a 4-ship from “three jets following lead” into an actual weapon system.

I cover spreading workload, increasing SA, multiplying combat power, choosing the right pilot for the right task, and why “trust but verify” is not the same as micromanagement.

Hope it’s useful for BMS pilots and squadrons working on flight lead skills.

Feedback welcome, as always.

Flight Lead Fundamentals #5: Communicate to Reduce Chaos

I just released part 5 of my Flight Lead Fundamentals series.

This one is about comms — but not as a radio procedure tutorial. The focus is on the deeper layer behind effective tactical communication: shared meaning, expected comms, implied comms, and why short calls only work when the flight already understands the contract behind them.

Main idea:
Good comms are not about talking more.
They are about creating less doubt.

The video opens with real DVIDS F-16 cockpit footage, then moves into how the same principles translate into serious Falcon BMS flying.

As always, feedback is very welcome — especially from people flying in virtual squadrons or leading flights/packages.

Flight Lead Fundamentals #4 is up: How Flight Leads Build Situational Awareness.

This one looks at SA from a Flight Lead perspective: not just knowing what is happening, but understanding what it means for your flight, your mission, and the next 30 seconds.

I also touch on distributed SA, why wingmen are sensors and cross-checks, why “tumbleweed” should be called early, and why SA is not the same as Link 16.

The intro uses a short audio clip of the 2019 Spangdahlem F-16 crash, based on publicly available material and flight data, to show how quickly a situation can develop.

Feedback and discussion are very welcome.
