RELATIONSHIPS:
Tanjiro:
T — She’s very responsible and clear-headed. Insightful, too; she points out details I never would have noticed! But she always seems like she’s closing herself up, blocking out anything that’s not useful. She should let herself be happy and free.
A — He’s like the heat of a fire. Warm and comforting, yet dangerous when he rages. He spends too much time being idle.
Nezuko:
N — Mmm. Mft mmph mphmn mm. Mnnf mmph! Mm mph mmph muft mmn, mm mnph, mnf. Mmmmmpht.
A — By Master Ubayashiki’s command, she is allowed to stay alive, but she makes me uneasy. She needs to stop sleeping so often.
Zenitsu:
Z — She’s so beautiful and dreamy, just like wisteria petals, or shimmering glass… but she never looks at me!
A — I don’t think I’ve met someone so immature and irresponsible. At least he seems to know this.
Inosuke:
I — Way, way, way, way too fragile, even if she is a Hashira! So JUDGY. And probably no match for even the lowest underling of mine!
A — Never mind, I have met someone more immature than Agatsuma. Hashibira is headstrong and volatile, and instead of maintaining his blades, he smashes rocks into them?
Genya:
G — She doesn’t seem to have a personality. As empty as her Breathing Style.
A — I don’t respect him, and I think he should work harder to be more responsible, although his brother is a little too harsh with him. Maybe that’s why he always flinches when they pass each other in the halls.
Kanao:
K — She’s very elegant. Shinobu-sama and Kanae-sama both liked and respected her.
A — A model Tsuguko. Hashibira and Agatsuma could learn a thing or two from this gentle girl.
Muichiro:
M — Oh… the Glass Hashira… hmm… she’s kinda quiet. She reminds me of a little bunny, observant and shy.
A — He spaces out a lot when he really should be paying attention, and I resent him for it. He never remembers anything, no matter how crucial.
Giyu:
G — Respectable. She’s good at listening, but never seems to have an opinion of her own.
A — Respectable. He’s good at listening, but always seems to have opinions that edge on violating the rules.
Shinobu:
S — She’s level-headed and organized, but awfully shy sometimes. I never know if she means something or if she’s just parroting somebody else’s words.
A — I enjoy being with her! She used to be too disrespectful and rude, but now she smiles and listens more. I’m not quite sure why.
Mitsuri:
M — Eee! She’s so cute with those space buns! But she would look even cuter with braids… if I convince Master Ubayashiki to let me braid her, then I know she’ll agree!
A — Far too loud. But she knows to follow orders, even if she spends too much time on pleasure.
Gyomei:
G — She’s young, but has the mindset of one more mature. She never lets herself experience amusement or waste time in idleness.
A — He’s admirable and a good leader. I want to be like him someday, strong and humble and respectful.
Tengen:
T — I love to tease her. She’s a bit uptight… But she hangs around me a lot, and she’s smart!
A — He reminds me of somebody I used to know, somebody I loved. He’s comforting and fatherly.
Kyojuro:
K — Her eyes shine brightly! She’s collected and neat! A perfect example of a worthy Hashira!
A — I like being with him. He’s very enthusiastic, but nearly always in favor of Master Ubayashiki. His hair looks like a blazing fire.
Sanemi:
S — Stuck-up brat, yet she can barely speak a word in front of me! Bet there’s not a single thought in that head of hers, the idiot.
A — I wish he would stop arguing and yelling at the master. I often have the urge to roll my eyes at him, which I really shouldn’t be doing!
Obanai:
O — The Glass Hashira is delicate and shy, too much so. But she is well disciplined and organized, and always nods to me in acknowledgement of our shared rank.
A — He doesn’t remove his bandage for any reason. I don’t really know him; we rarely speak. His snake scares me.
Natori:
N — I love telling her everything! She actually listens, and wow, her hair is super cute!
A — I want to tell her to be more responsible, and to teach her how to properly follow orders, but when I’m with her, I never seem to get the chance…
BACKSTORY:
Her father was killed by demons when she was little, and it drove her mother slowly insane. She would put nonsensical rules in place and strictly enforce them. (No leaving the house after midday, always leaving a certain window open, etc). A lot of her paranoia rubbed off on Aki, who was scared to ever break a rule. Eventually, her mother broke a window and stabbed herself in the heart with a shard of glass. Aki was heartbroken and swore not to let herself get attached to anybody ever again, out of fear that she might shatter. Searching for a life where she didn’t have that risk, she joined the Demon Slayer Corps, and with her calm efficiency and precision, she quickly rose to Hashira rank.
She was present at Tanjiro’s trial and wanted him and Nezuko to die, but quickly changed her tune at the Master’s words.
She was not present in either the Mugen Train or Red Light District Arcs.
She was in the Swordsmith Village Arc, as she often visits there to ensure her katana is in pristine condition. Instead of wandering around or heading to hot springs, she just waited for her sword outside her swordsmith’s shop. Tanjiro talked to her a little, but she quickly left to train once her blade was ready, making him feel sad when only Mitsuri, out of Genya, Muichiro, Mitsuri, and Aki, wanted to have dinner with him. After a little while, Tanjiro comes across Aki training alone. He notes the perfection with which she attacks and asks to spar (this was after he had trained with Yoriichi Type Zero and was eager to further improve his sword skills). Aki accepts, and they fight. He finds that whenever he comes close to striking her, her eyes widen with genuine fear, and so he stops their training to ask. She responds by driving him against a tree and telling him not to undermine authority. But leaving, she hesitates, as if thinking about what he said. When Upper Moon Four appears, she has already left the village, and is too far to help.
In the Hashira Training Arc, she’s present. At the beginning, when the Hashira have a meeting, she is tense. Mitsuri relates how she got her mark, and Aki stares with dot eyes. When Tokito relates it, she is shown to be noting the conditions needed. She participates in the training, teaching the lower ranked slayers with Quick Reasoning Training, preceding Obanai’s.
In Quick Reasoning Training, Aki will play a quick round of chess with one slayer at a time. If you can beat her in under five minutes, you move on. Tanjiro arrives and plays her every day, but to no avail. Eventually, he realizes she uses the same strategy every time she plays, and beats her. Stunned, she demands how he won so easily. He tells her that she did the same thing every time, so all he had to do was figure out the pattern. He encourages her to take risks, and in response to this, she dismisses him.
In the Infinity Castle Arc, she quickly encounters Nakime, before Mitsuri and Obanai. Aki quickly attempts to deal with Nakime, but is caught off guard by her BDA. She retreats, trying to assess how to attack, and constantly dodging her opponent’s attempts at crushing her. After not really doing anything for a while, Mitsuri and Obanai arrive to aid her. Now with allies, Aki begins to fight closer to Nakime, taking more opportunities. She has a lot of difficulty with this fight, because Glass Breathing relies on perfect openings — which can instantly close with a strum of Nakime’s biwa. Aki suffers several minor injuries, as well as a broken finger. She participates in the plan to fool Muzan into thinking the Hashira are dead, and attempts to behead the Demon King himself, only to be smashed into a wall, suffering several more broken bones. She continues to fight, however, a little while later. When the castle breaks up, she is caught in one of Muzan’s attacks, her right arm being cut off at the shoulder. Quickly bandaging the wound with a strip of her uniform, she switches to her left arm and continues attacking. She also gets a huge gash on her waist, one nearly severing her right foot, and several smaller cuts. She attempts to attack, but keeps hesitating, only getting hurt more due to her lack of movement. Eventually, at a point when all Hashira but her are temporarily incapacitated, she stops holding back and uses her final form, letting all of her emotion, all the anger and pain and fear and joy and despair she’s restrained for years, guide her movements. She goes solo against Muzan for about a minute before he impales her, but she yanks herself free, desperate to finish this, and joins the others to fight him. After Muzan is defeated, she finally lets herself cry, despite the pain from every single sob shaking her broken body. She stands there, still crying, but alive despite her injuries. And she decides that even though she can go on living, she wants to be with her mother, and collapses into her warm arms, her body giving up for good.

Glass Breathing, derived from Flame. It’s powerful and focuses on short, slashing attacks, imitating the precision and fragility of glass. It lacks defense and evasiveness. Uses a standard Nichirin katana — Aki’s is polished so well that it shines like clear glass. Demons who have been beheaded with this Breathing Style say it is cold and cutting and merciless, with an ember of kindness and warmth within.
First Form: The Sheen Of Polished Glass
The user dashes forward with minimal movement, aiming for the opponent’s neck with steady speed. Clean and precise, a perfect opener and finisher.
Second Form: Reflective Glass Pane
The user, when attacked, lowers their body and deflects any strikes, like light bouncing off a pane of glass.
Third Form: Refractions Of Light
The user uses precise footwork to dance around their opponent, attacking in weak spots, but not very strongly, just enough to keep the opponent off-balance and disoriented.
Fourth Form: Trapped In A Mirror
The user darts between enemies, stabbing through them and continuing for about ten attacks, like light bouncing off facets of a crystal. Can also be used with objects instead, pushing off of solid surfaces before stabbing the opponent brutally. If a strike misses, it renders the rest of the attack awkward and slow.
Fifth Form: Cascade of Dazzling Shards
The user attacks their opponent from above, striking in a spiraling pattern of multiple small strikes, ending in one final thrust, so that it seems like a shower of stars.
Sixth Form: Shattered Heart Of Glass
The user, in a reckless display of power, stabs violently around themselves, like shattering glass.
OTHER VARIATIONS:
Reincarnation:
Akemi Hishida, a girl who works at the local library. She seems quite strict, but in truth is cheerful and empathetic. She’s known for donating her own books to the library when patrons fail to return theirs, like Sumihiko. She’s also a very good artist — her abstract murals decorate the exterior of the library.
Kimetsu Academy:
Violet Class. Aki Hiyama is a straight A student, and often tutors younger children. She loves art class, especially because the teacher, Tengen Uzui, treats her fondly. In her first year, she tried out for the basketball team, but didn’t make it because she didn’t move an inch for the duration of the tryouts! Afterwards, she said the ball was moving too fast for her to find a good opening. She’s a member of the shogi club.
QUOTES:
-Rules are meant to be followed, not ignored. You should respect those who have authority over you by following their rules without questioning.
-You want me to talk? To an entire village? …No, thank you.
-I don’t want to break out of my shell. It’s glass — once it shatters, I can’t go back.
-I don’t care if I shatter. I’ll shatter again and again and again, but I’ll never break as long as the warmth of love can pull me back together.
TRIVIA:
-She is left-handed, but taught herself to use her right hand because she saw others doing it, and felt it was the norm. This doesn’t mean she’s ambidextrous — she’s just a bit better at using her off-hand than most people, and does it instead of her dominant one.
-She was given the same uniform as Mitsuri, and never wanting to disobey orders, she wore it — with something to cover her breasts.
-She freezes up when she’s talking to more than eleven people — but is completely fine before that. It’s supposed to be humorous, hehe…
-The effects for Glass Breathing lose the inner orange-gold within seconds, and appear to harden, then shatter.
-She’s kind of a self-insert…
-She found her katana hard to clean with engravings, so she asked for none.
-Aki LOVES abstract painting. Her work is beautiful.
-She’s ophidiophobic; when she was little, a snake crawled into her bed at night, and when she called for her mother, she brutally murdered the reptile, saying it was incredibly evil. This led to a paranoia around all snakes. When there’s one nearby, Aki will tend to tense.
-Tanjiro notes that her paintings look like melting glass.
