What is Bart?
Hi! Had to make a new account to post this, been a reddit user for years now.
This is Bart. We are from Missouri. The Southwestern part of it.
A customer at my store, brought me a mummy.
She said she was tearing a barn down on her property, and found Bart in her barn.
She didn’t have any dogs go missing, didn’t have neighbors notify her of missing dogs, and never noticed an unidentified dog on her property. Not to say this rules out a dog getting into her barn.
She believed it to be coyote; I posted it in a Facebook group and it’s debated to be dog. I’m really on the fence, more than I ever have been.
More is pointing towards coyote for me, but some these folks got some great points!
The teeth are large, and not well worn in the back.
The nails not having a blunt edge or any evidence of trimming or being worn on concrete/flooring.
The remaining fur resembling coyote and the color of said fur on different parts of the body corresponding with common coyote fur colors/patterns. I do know fur gets “crispy” after death, but I’ve found hides and such out and about, and I personally have been able to identify the difference between raccoons, foxes, deer and cats in different stages of decomp. Texture, color, length. It just makes sense to my brain. Can’t really describe how.
And body shape says coyote to me. Really narrow, as well as the head is narrow. But again, that head shape is doggie to me!! The “stop” looks more defined that a usual smooth coyote nose bridge.
But I also don’t disagree he looks very dog like! I’m so back and forth on this guy!!
Everyone’s been very kind and informational on Facebook!! But I figured I’d see what some other folks would say here on Reddit!
Either way, I love Bart.
And I will honor and respect Bart in his afterlife. Dog, coyote, unicorn. Whatever he may be!!
And if he is a dog, I hope Bart being honored and loved again can send them a warm feeling some way or another.
