Why does the swarm kill him? Is it ever explained?
Only reason I can think of is that it wants to ensure they are one of the ones that are taken off the planet by the carryx.
The carryx are so close to Anjiin at this point, it seems to me that his death didn’t change anything at all.
Re reading and am confused on something:
“The primary scholars would be loaned to other medrey and collegia to start up parallel programs, with one of the junior researchers left here to shepherd the work that’s already in progress.”
Who are the primary scholars in the group? And who are the junior researchers?
Later in the chapter, Jessyn says “we’re all junior researchers”
But right before that, tomer says “I managed to find out who was slated for the three spin-off labs. Me, Else, and Jessyn”
Wouldn’t that make Jessyn a primary scholar if she’s getting one of the spin offs?
