1939 Lakefield All Wood Canoe - Advice on Selling
Located near Washington DC. My neighbor is in his 90s and downsizing. He has this 1939 Lakefield All Wood Canoe that he got in Connecticut decades ago. He has it restored by Mike Hanna of Alder Creek Boat Works a long time ago.
It’s been up in the air but under a tarp in his backyard since 2009. The hull seems very sound but the gunwale is rotted and needs replaced as well of some of the deck where it meets the bow and stern. It will need some work but I don’t think anything super extensive. It was stored upside down and from what I can tell some moisture got trapped on the backside of the deck and gunwale and sat. The rot seems localized only to that area.
Does anyone know a good place to list it (I’m active on Facebook Marketplace but not sure if there is any demand there). Considering it will be a bit of a project, any thoughts on what it might be worth? From what I can tell, fully restored is probably worth $3k.
The last photo is what it looked like in 2009!
