Something I hear a lot is you can’t make the moon fall into Earth without cancelling v but I don’t understand why. I have very limited physics knowledge so forgive me if I sound stupid, but
Fc=Mv^2 /R=Fg
If we add a force to Fg, Fg+Fappplied such that it is > mv^2 /R, why wouldbg the moon fall into Earth and instead just cause a steeper orbit?
Also I know orbit are elipictival. If we aren’t allowed to us Fc for this as Fc is only for circles, why are we allowed to use Fc for deriving keplers third law?
I heard angular momentum and tidal forces play a role but I have no idea how.
