[Need Advice] Renovating my first house! Struggling with furniture placement and would love new suggestions and/or feedback on my layout plan. 🌿

Hey r/IndianHomeDecor,

I’m currently renovating my very first house (a resale property here in Bangalore). I originally went for this place because I absolutely loved how open it feels, especially the big balconies! My goal is to go for a minimal theme with lots of breathing room and indoor greenery.

However, because of the current layout, I’m having a tough time deciding on the best placement for the furniture and everyday items.

The Big Structural Changes:

  • Open Kitchen: I’m planning to knock down a section of the wall between the kitchen and the hall to open the space up.
  • More Light: I want to increase the size of the window and door in the 1st-floor family room and install a massive sliding door.

My Current Layout Idea (Color-Coded Image Attached):

  • Living Area with Swing: I love hosting movie nights with friends, so keeping a large, open living space is an absolute must! I’m also planning to put a swing right in the center (inspired by my grandparents' old veranda). I want to go with a design that has a reversible backrest, so by a simple switch, it can be part of the living area or face the dining/kitchen space.
  • Mandir: Going on the 1st floor. It’s the only spot that is strictly Vastu compliant and doesn’t disrupt the overall flow of the house.
  • Breakfast Counter: Will be ~1 foot wide (the exact width of the 11-inch kitchen/hall partition). It will end perfectly in line with the partition and won’t extend outward. (I would have preferred tall chairs here but there is no space!)
  • Storage: These will be storage units. The top yellow storage section right below the stairs will serve as a dedicated book & board games rack.
  • Shelves/Audio(Brown): Small shelves attached to the existing cupboard doors under the stairs. These will double up as stands to support the rear surround sound speakers.
  • Entrance Foyer Area: This area will house our shoes, sports gear (badminton, tennis, football), helmets, and provide space for office bags. I’ll also add a small seater at the very end for comfortably wearing shoes.
  • Dining: The dining table will feature a bench that can slide completely underneath when not in use to maximize walking space.
  • Balcony: I need greenery here and also some facade for privacy.

I’ve attached the layout I have in mind. Please let me know what you think! Am I missing anything obvious? Any suggestions on better furniture placement or ways to maximize the minimal, open vibe would be hugely appreciated!
