Remember, the minions are less a wincon and more an ever so slightly controllable stage hazard
I just watched 4 and this is the only scene of the mega minions where one of them manages to do anything on purpose other than fix a problem another one caused. Even if the laser minion could out power the death ray, there's no way in hell they manage to hit the thing or the laser it fires...or anything that isn't stationary in point blank range really
