Case of a so-called indisciplined child

My neighbour's daughter studies in a premium fee school and is of age 6. Recently her parents got summon from the school and were asked to meet urgently.

The parents went and listened how disobedient and indisciplined their child is.

She went to washroom without even asking the teacher. The class was on and she just stood-up and walked out --Teacher explained the reason.

The parents apologised, felt guilty, scolded the child and returned back.

They came to me and explained the situation. I asked the daughter the reason of doing so.

"The last time I asked to go to pee, the teacher said no. This time I was in bad need of going and was afraid teacher would deny and I may make the class wet. So I didn't ask and just went on." The child presented her case.

I informed my stand to the parents "You should actually appreciate your child for her bravery and understanding". She has done nothing wrong.

Now my neighbours are not happy with me and not talking because I justified their daughter's behaviour.

Community, I would like to invite you to discuss this topic futher.

Did I do right? You have a different advise? How should have I handled this case better?

What would be in teacher's mind when denying for a toilet break? What are her perspectives?

Thanks
