Boyfriend said he wants to propose with his great grandmothers ring. Insists is worth $$20,000 which is more than anything he’d be able to afford.

His great grandmother was in the holocaust and I guess her ring has been passed down for three generations so it’s my turn. I haven’t seen a picture yet but will later this week. He said it would be very important to him that I get her ring. My fist thought was ick because I’ve always had my own vision for a ring but he said it would have to be resized and reset which would give wiggle room for what I’d like plus I’d choose a wedding band. Maybe I’m over thinking this. I wanted an elongated cushion but is that even possible with someone else’s ring? When he announced it to me I was caught off guard and probably didn’t have the best reaction (went totally silent- then said “that’s sweet”). I’m just at this point thinking of my options. I don’t know wha type of ring it is but it’s probably a brilliant or princess cut, can those become different types of rings or am I just an asshole with hope? Also is it even possible for something like that to still be worth $20K? Even if it is will it be cleaned up and able to be reset at a jewelry store? Where would I take it?
