(Very late) VFL Post Match Thread

For some reason this game was basically the exact same time as our AFL Match, so only watched the replay last night (albeit half asleep so I apologise for the mediocre review)

We lost 75-63

It really shows when there’s injuries/outs in the AFL how quickly it can change the quality of game at the lower level, if we had McClean & Cunners in this game there is no doubt we win this match comfortably

BOG - Co.Warner by the length of a country mile, he was everywhere with 4 goals and 36 Disposals, was clean & was using corridor well all game

Ladhams once again won the ruck comfortably

Cleary wasn’t as clean as he has been the last couple weeks and probably cost us a couple of goals in turnovers, but still not horrid by any means

(VFL Player Mallis) - he is an absolute freak and I really hope Swans put Adams in the retirement home to pick him up in the mid year because he could walk up to our seniors side and take Cootee or Lloyds spot next week he is that good

Hanily - played more mid and was decent, didn’t take his chances in the F50 with clumsy hands a couple times

Kyle - can’t fault his confidence going into the contest, will always give 100% and was pretty good this game, still believe a debut is on the cards at the end of the year the way he keeps improving his IQ

Hamling - if Tmac is out another week he is 100% taking pelicans spot, didn’t do much wrong but admittedly did show his age and couldn’t keep up against norths younger FWD’s if they got a fast break

Snell - looked ON in the first quarter, then kind of just didnt take the game on? Didn’t do anything wrong, but almost like he didnt want to risk jumping off his man and trying to intercept plays, which he has been doing so well at all year, not a bad game by any means, but probably a tad under what he has produced week in week out this year

Chamberlain - was on the wing/HBF and had some good signs, working his way in still but enjoying watching him more each week, still don’t see him breaking in the AFL side at all this year, but good work throughout the year he may get the reward next year

Datolli - bro… you know you had a chance to take Rosas spot this year but somehow your so far off it your probably behind Phillipou for a debut this year, besides 1 good game this year has done nothing in the mid/fwd spot

Phillipou - didn’t get much, but took his chances when he did, decent pressure all game, just needs to force himself to be involved more throughout the game

All in all, we didn’t play bad at all, just didn’t have a Full Forward this game, and didn’t have a single senior head to calm down the kids and tell them what to do (Hamling isn’t really a senior head as he has never really held a seniors spot in the last 8 years of his career)

So assuming McClean is in for Curnow

And maybe a sneaky Snell Debut for Serong??? Though I feel they play it safe and bring cunners in and we go a bit shorter,

But with these outs it definitely makes the game in Saturday a bit more stressful!

Apologies for how late this is, I had to rewatch the last quarter as I fell asleep the first 15 mins..: could of probably not bothered re watching as I didn’t miss much,

ANWAY!

BOG - Ladhams - once again dominated Ruck and clearance,

Next Best

  1. Cleary once again was our inside distributor, still a bit messy but couldn’t of competed in the mid without him

  2. Co.Warner, 2 beautiful 50m goals & ran all day in the midfield, did nothing wrong

  3. Cunningham, could of been BOG with his cleanliness & his experience in co-ordinared the defence the first half of the game, and probably will come back in next week for Cootee I feel

Still Good, But Not Great

  1. Hanily, got involved in a lot of chains, and snuck in a goal, could of had a better day if kicked more accurately

  2. Hamling, his Disposal count looks like he had a field day, but the main reason that Melbourne came back a bit was because of his poor kicking/decision making coming out the back line, this is the main reason why I believe they chose Pelican over Big Ham in the seniors

  3. Snell, was quiet 1st quarter only because we dominated the fwd, had some very classy tackles & kicks starting the chain to move the ball up fwd, doubt he gets a debut next week, but again, did no wrong

Average Games, can’t complain

  1. Phillipou, 2 nice goals and some good pressure up fwd, I can see him learning his craft as a half fwd this year and honestly put pressure on our half fwd rolls for a debut late in the year/ next year

  2. Harry Kyle, if you looked at his low fantasy score you would think he was pretty crap… what he did in the first half was one of the reasons we pilled on several goals because of him, still needs to improve the tank to keep going all day, but has has the fight to continuously want the ball & action

  3. Datolli, was predominantly mid this game, and after seeing his first 2 quarters in there… he needs to MASSIVELY build his tank up & his repeat acts or else he won’t be getting into the senior side for some time

  4. Chamberlain, didn’t do anything wrong, but didn’t do anything to excite me either

  5. McClean, some may see 2 goals and think this is harsh, but both goals came from pure luck, and he got abused by Tom McDonald massively all game, and showed if a half decent AFL Defender plays a lockdown roll, he can’t do much

Bad/unlucky

  1. First half I didn’t even know Bowman was playing he was that invisible, and then he had hammy awerness and was off afterwards, shame to see as he was rumoured to be close to a debut at the start of the year, now I feel we’ll be lucky to see him get a cheap game or two at end of year

All in all, great to see us bank another win, and several players putting pressure on Senior spots if some guys have bad games/ needs a rest

Special shout out to a new VFL Player Mallis!! He was absolutely amazing to watch, and everytime he had the ball I was honestly excited to see what would happen
