Weird fun fact
Weird fun fact: for anyone who has seen this movie, this is technically a video game adaptation.
"Of what?" you may ask. Well, US Lupin the 3rd arcade game Cliffhanger, for those who don't know what that is.
Cliffhanger was a dragon layer type arcade game using clips from the first and second animated Lupin films, but mainly the second movie. It was also an example of early Lupin dubs, and just like the early dub pre-Part 2 cast, they changed Lupin's name due to copyright from the Lablac estate.
But Lupin's name was the only name that was changed; the other characters were too.
Lupin is renamed Cliff.
Jigen to Jeff
Goemon the samurai
Clarisse to Clarissa
And Count Cagliostro to Count Drago
Now remember I said "technically," so why did I say that? Well...
When the game came out, Stallone found the arcade and liked its story and thought it would be great as a movie, so he went to people who distributed the game to buy the film rights he required, and he along with Michael France began making the script, and it wasn't just any script; it slowly changed over time to the point it was a totally different beast, resulting in the film you see here.
So yeah, we almost got a Lupin the 3rd movie starting Stallone as Lupin the 3rd. Yeah for those who know of this arcade game exists cliff characterzation or what characterzation there is different from the lupin we know but it still a weird thing to think about.
