Hey girlies! I'm looking for recommendations new switches for my GMMK 2 keyboard! I'm currently running the Zeal Sakurios and while I love them, they're currently giving me some specific-to-me issues that warrant replacing them. This is my very first keyboard, and they were my very first switches, so I'm very new to this. I know exactly what I need in switches, but finding ones that fit the bill is where I'm getting a bit stuck, so I'm turning to you all and your expertise for advice! Apologies in advance for improper terminology, I'm very new to this, so feel free to correct me!
TL;DR: My current switches at 62g actuation are too "heavy" for my hands, so I'm looking to replace them! My absolute musts are silent linear, light actuation, and ideally RGB friendly!
The problem:
I have hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS), so all of the joints in my body are kind of messed up. My Sakurios have an actuation of 62g, and this is definitely much "heavier" than is reasonable for me. I can't type or game for very long on my keyboard without pain from the muscles and tendons in my hands, both from pressing the keys and from the joints in my fingers attempting to sublux (partially dislocate) due to the force.
I also have autism, and auditory sensory issues coming with it. I personally can't stand the sound of loud, clacky keyboards, they drive me absolutely insane. The reason I bought the Sakurios is because I find them to be almost completely silent, which is exactly what I need. My definition of silent is not the keyboard enthusiast definition of silent, when I say silent I mean "as little noise as absolutely possible."
Prior to my GMMK 2 I had a Razer Cynosa V2, which was perfect and I loved dearly both due to the quietness and the light actuation force. Unfortunately, the build quality was horrible and the black paint of the keycaps began fading within months, rendering several letters unreadable. If I didn't value personalization so much, I would likely buy another membrane keyboard, but I'd rather not replace the whole thing if I can avoid it given I know I can just swap out the switches on this one.
What I've found:
In my own searching, I found the TTC Silent Frozen switches, and on paper they're exactly what I need! They're very very quiet, and they have an actuation of 39g. I, admittedly, don't have any point of comparison besides it being a smaller number than the 62g of my current switches, so I turn to you all in this! One of my friends recommended me the Cherry MX Red switches, but I found them to be much too loud for me when I looked up a video of them being tested.
Thank you in advance for any thoughts and advice!
