I created a Substack account under my business entities name at the beginning of 2026 to read an article initially. On the sign in page I entered what would be my email address but noticed a typo after I hit submit. It didn’t ask me for a password, to my surprise the account was created instantly. I went on to read a specific article by a creator that I followed. — I figured I could fix it in settings later. I posted my first article Sunday afternoon, added my picture, set up my bio, added my social media handle links, and etc. I even got comments and new free subscribers, as a result of my post. However yesterday I attempted to do so but couldn’t access settings without email verification. I signed out hoping that it was saved to my password manager. Long story short I don’t know what the exact typo was anymore. I do have an actual verified account that was created last year using the same device and IP address. Support said that they couldn’t help me to get access to the account because I didn’t have paid subscribers or stripe set up yet.
My thing is if I can’t get any help, although I can prove that the account was created on my device / IP address that matches my verified account. I also provided screen recordings of me in the settings on the desktop version, and screen recordings of me being signed in that I was able to capture from tabs I had opened in other window on safari. I offered to verify using government ID, LLC, EIN… etc. and that still denied me. I requested to have the account data deleted, so that I can merge the account with my verified one and take hold of my business handle. They went silent.
It states in substack policy in article 8:
Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights with respect to your personal information:
Access: You can request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
Correction: You can ask us to correct or update information that is inaccurate.
Deletion: You can request that we delete your personal information, subject to certain exceptions.
You can exercise these rights by logging into your account settings or by contacting us as described in the "Contact Us" section below. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling your request.
I live in Georgia so it is my right to prove who I am using details of my account activity, time stamps, and everything else I have to make this request. But they are silent , although they are legally and contractually obligated to provide a reasonable way to do that..
Any advice??
