fox5ny.comThe Art Of Converting A Liberal Into A Socialist
Without leftist unity we will never have the numbers to take on the establishment. Division and self sabotage will destroy us. Instead, we should find ways to make use of one another using our differences as strengths on a road towards a greater socialist struggle.
Simply put, without a means of reaching a broader audience socialists will never prevail. Well always be just another outsider movement without permit into the political game regulated by the ruling class. (Libertarians stuck in purgatory for example)
Democrats Socialists are the movement that gets more radical socialists a mention towards liberals into real world politics. Reformist is the first step into building a broader socialist coalition that may possibly be able to revolutionize in real life. But without being included into their game of politics, we'll be stuck on the sidelines without any significant progress.
Someone who was first a liberal gets exposed to Democratic Socialism, and thus entry into the world of leftism may find themselves siding with the orthodox Marxists or even Marxist Leninists.
Liberals are not evil, they're uneducated. They have never been taught political theory. It's every socialists obligation to study, become a master of their domain and then educate everyone they can.
Liberals are engulfed in their real world politics happening in front of them. Gas prices, abortion debates, gun control, etc. It's not that they necessarily disagree with socialism or any other ideology outside of their beliefs they just haven't been exposed to it yet.
Entryism into their political world has been my angle of waking people up. Though the progressives are just radical capitalists (at this point at least, they're reformists) they're being lead by self described "Democratic Socialists" which is an ideology- something a majority of US voters has never been exposed too let alone this specific one.
Building the bridge for liberals is an art that reformists have been engineering rapidly beginning in 2016. They support the progressive agenda because it's helpful to the working class and not too far away from practicality- ensuring their stability and won't cause a disaster.
They notice the label Democratic Socialist and they question what exactly that is, and that's when the dive into self studies begins. They google the definitions, cross reference the politicians doing it, ask questions from the communities we've built online and are exposed to a whole new world of politics- fundemental abstract politics that aren't confined to the political sandbox funded by the rich media in their country.
Converting a liberal into a progressive is a huge win for reformists, converting a progressive into a socialist and thus another educator is an even greater gain for our movement.
In order to do that, we can't simply exist outside of the realm of the politics happening we've gotta force our way into it so that the voters or people who are politically interested take notice of us.
By electing Democratic Socialists in office and then building grass roots movements like the DSA or even the communist organizations like the PSL and Claudia De La Cruz we can radically transform what's considered acceptable politics to the average American from both the top down and the ground up, they cannot silence what the people want but they can slow us down by offering cheap alternatives.
TLDR: Entry into US politics via even reformist socialists exposes average voters to political theory and encourages self education. Even if you're more radical than Democratic Socialism your movement benefits from our intervention in US politics by creating a hole into the establishments political narratives leading people toward leftism in general.
Without the reformists who can adequately reach the minds of the typical voters the socialist movements suffer in stagnation- but with the help of the socialists who are enforcing themselves into our politics we can build a movement within it targeting an audience that socialist outsiders could never reach alone.
Without reformists to radicalize liberals revolution will never be a practical option simply due to the lack of potential revolutionaries.
The Art Of Converting A Liberal Into A Socialist
First of all I'd like to thank the mods for unbanning me upon my request (Posted a Bernie article a few years back as a baby leftist), hopefully this sub can continue to prove to be a sub for all socialists regardless of specifics.
Now onto the topic. Without leftist unity we will never have the numbers to take on the establishment. Division and self sabotage will destroy us. Instead, we should find ways to make use of one another using our differences as strengths on a road towards a greater socialist struggle.
