Is swallowing pain in chest normal after an upper endoscopy?
Hi folks,
I had my first upper endoscopy yesterday under moderate sedation.
What was done:
• Biopsy at cervical inlet patch (18cm from incisors)
• Upper and lower oesophageal biopsies (4cm and 14cm above Z-line) to exclude EoE
• Random stomach biopsies
• 5mm fundic gland polyp removed
What I’m experiencing since yesterday evening:
• Painful swallowing at throat level, mid-chest, and upper abdomen and the pain sometimes refers to the sides and upper back for a few seconds
• No pain at rest and no fever
• Notable globus with meals and dysphagia (but this was there prior to the scope as well)
Weirdly, water hurts more than thicker liquids like soups.
Currently eating soft foods and liquids only, even though the discharge paper said I could resume normal diet.
Just wondering if anyone has been through something similar and if you have any tips that helped you recover faster?
Thanks a bunch in advance 🙏
