Uluru in 24h

Hi everyone!

We’ll be visiting Uluru in early October and will have roughly 24 hours there. Our flight arrives around 9:30–10:00 AM, and we depart the next day at around 12:30 PM with an internal flight.

We’re trying to understand if it’s realistic to fit in:

  • a Kata Tjuta hike (Valley of the Winds or similar)
  • Uluru sunset (~6:30–7:00 PM in early October)
  • Uluru sunrise (~6:00–6:30 AM)
  • Field of Light (either after sunset or before sunrise)

Has anyone managed to do all of this in such a short time?

What would be the best way to organize it without it becoming too rushed?

Also, are there any organized tours that combine Field of Light with either sunset or sunrise at Uluru? That seems like it could really simplify logistics.

Would you recommend booking tours (especially for Kata Tjuta and timing), or is it manageable independently?

Thanks!

Honeymoon itinerary

We are planning a honeymoon in Australia, Fiji (and Hong Kong) from 26 September to 19 October 2026. The trip includes a mix of long-haul flights, domestic flights, self-drive sections, a ferry transfer, and beach relaxation, so we are trying to understand whether the pacing makes sense.

1. Departure and Hong Kong stopover

  • 26–27 September: Overnight flight from Milan to Hong Kong.
  • 27 September: Connect from Hong Kong to Melbourne.
  • This is mainly a transit start, with no real sightseeing time in Hong Kong yet.

2. Melbourne and Great Ocean Road loop

  • 27–29 September: Stay in Melbourne for 2 nights.
  • Time here is for arriving, settling in, and possibly exploring the city.
  • 29 September: Pick up the rental car and drive from Melbourne to Port Campbell.
  • 30 September: Continue by car from Port Campbell to Robe.
  • 1 October: Drive from Robe to Victor Harbor.
  • This part of the trip is basically a self-drive coastal road trip, focused on scenic stops and overnights rather than long stays in each place.

3. Kangaroo Island and Adelaide

  • 2 October: Drive to Cape Jervis, then take the ferry to Kangaroo Island.
  • 2–4 October: Spend 2 nights on Kangaroo Island.
  • The island part is for nature, wildlife, and coastal landscapes.
  • 4 October: Ferry back to the mainland and continue to Adelaide.
  • 4–5 October: Stay 1 night in Adelaide, mainly as a base before flying north.

4. Far north Queensland

  • 5 October: Fly from Adelaide to Cairns.
  • Pick up the rental car and drive to Daintree.
  • 5–6 October: Spend 1 night in Daintree, likely to experience the rainforest area.
  • 6 October: Drive back from Daintree to Cairns.
  • 6–7 October: Spend 1 night in Cairns.
  • This part combines rainforest + coastal base + short regional drives.

5. Uluru and Sydney

  • 7 October: Fly from Cairns to Ayers Rock / Uluru.
  • 7–8 October: Stay 1 night near Uluru.
  • This stop is for the Red Centre and possible sunset or scenic excursions.
  • 8 October: Fly from Uluru to Sydney.
  • 8–11 October: Stay 3 nights in Sydney.
  • Sydney is the main city stop, with time for iconic sights, harbour area, beaches, and city life.

6. Fiji beach stay

  • 11 October: Fly from Sydney to Nadi, Fiji.
  • 11–12 October: Stay 1 night in Nadi.
  • 12 October: Take the ferry from Port Denarau to Matamanoa Island.
  • 12–17 October: Stay 5 nights at Matamanoa Island Resort.
  • This is the main relaxation part of the honeymoon, with beach, sea, and resort time.

7. Return via Hong Kong

  • 17 October: Ferry back to Nadi, then fly overnight to Hong Kong.
  • 18–20 October: Stay 2 nights in Hong Kong.
  • 19 October at night: Fly back to Milan.
  • This last stop is a short urban end to the trip before returning home.
