Why did nobody in my theater know who Fox McCloud is?

I am aware that there have not been any new Star Fox titles since Star Fox 2, which was released in 2017 or 2018, depending on whether you classify the Switch version of Starlink: Battle for Atlas as a Star Fox game. In my opinion, regardless of whether children have played a Star Fox game before or not, they would still be familiar with Fox McCloud from the Smash Bros franchise.
