What we know about FSR diamond, and my thoughts

  1. Jack Huynh (SVP & GM of Computing & Graphics at AMD) announced FSR Diamond, which is natively optimized for Project Helix. It shares some features with FSR Redstone, but not all of them (for example, MFG).
  2. Kepler, who is known as a reliable AMD leaker, claims that FSR Diamond will be RDNA 5 exclusive.
  3. On the other hand, DXPower_AMD (a well-known representative in the AMD Discord) mentioned that nothing has been officially confirmed yet. Just because Xbox uses RDNA 5 hardware doesn’t automatically mean FSR Diamond will be exclusive to RDNA 5.

From the available information, I believe most of FSR Diamond’s features will eventually come to PC. For RDNA 4, the best-case scenario is that it gets the full Diamond package. A more realistic expectation is that RDNA 4 will receive upgraded features from Diamond — such as better upscaling, improved Frame Generation, and Ray Regeneration — but will miss some features like MFG.

Some may argue that since RDNA 3 didn’t receive FSR 4, AMD might make FSR Diamond exclusive to RDNA 5. However, I seriously doubt it. AMD has already promised machine learning features for the 9000 series, just like Nvidia did with the RTX 20 series, so skipping the 9000 series would be extremely difficult.

Claw A8 vs XAX

My Honest Comparison After Using Both the Claw A8 and XAX

  • Display
    • Claw A8: 8-inch IPS, 1200p, 120Hz
    • XAX: 7-inch IPS, 1080p, 120Hz
    • The Claw A8 clearly wins in the display department. It has a larger screen and much thinner bezels, which makes gaming feel more immersive and enjoyable. The only downside for me is the 16:10 aspect ratio — I personally prefer 16:9 for gaming. On the other hand, the XAX not only has a smaller screen but also very thick bezels that hurt the overall design and immersion. I don’t mind the 7-inch size that much, but those chunky bezels are pretty bad.
    • Result: Claw A8 wins
  • Hardware
    • Claw A8: Hall-effect triggers and joysticks, two USB4 ports, Wi-Fi 7
    • XAX: impulse trigger, better grips, Z2E with NPU, great speakers, very quiet fans, slightly better performance at 20W
    • On paper, the A8 looks stronger with hall-effect sticks and triggers, two USB4 ports, a bigger screen, and Wi-Fi 7. However, the XAX has several practical advantages that don’t show up on a spec sheet. It comes with impulse triggers and ergonomics feel noticeably better, the Z2E with NPU will become more useful once AutoSR launches in 2026, the fans are much quieter, and the speakers are some of the best on any handheld. Interestingly, even though both use the 890M, the XAX tends to perform slightly better at 20W, while the A8 has better battery life at the same power limit.
    • Result: Tie
  • Software
    • Claw A8: Fucked up
    • XAX: Excellent
    • I know a lot of people in this sub prefer Bazzite or other Linux distros, but I’m more comfortable with Windows because I like using AMD’s features such as RSR, AFMF, RIS, and Chill. On Windows, the A8’s software experience is honestly terrible. I’m not even talking about the M Center (I already knew it was bad before buying). The biggest issue is the drivers. The A8’s latest AMD driver is from October 2025, while the XAX is on March 2026 drivers. On top of that, the XAX has way more features — better AFMF 2.1 options, NPU-based video upscaling, and it will get AutoSR in 2026. It really feels like the XAX driver team is actually doing their job, while the A8 team… well, I’m not sure what happened there.
    • Result: XAX wins
  • Final Verdict
    • For me, while hardware specs and a bigger display are important, software experience is a huge factor when it comes to handhelds. That’s why people still talk about the Steam Deck so much and why many YouTubers recommend the Legion Go S Z1E SteamOS edition. If I had to choose between the two right now, I would definitely pick the XAX. Even if you really love the bigger screen, if you live in the US, I’d still go for the XAX. The extra $250 isn’t worth it.
