[Coi general] Murphy‘s Law pathway
This is the first pathway I’ll be sending, and it’s the decay pathway under the Monarch of Decay. The original boon pathway was divided into 3 pathways by me, so only 3 of these sequences will be made by cf.
Not every post will be as detailed as this one.
I’m always open to feedback/new ideas (I’m not even finished with some pathways abilities).
Please tell me if you have any ideas for abilities.
Sequence 9: Political Activist
A Political Activist will have the inherent desire of making others submit and of causing their subjects misfortune.
Mental Decay: They are good at convincing or appealing to the people, and can cause Mental Decay to them. These people might turn radical or vote against their self interest.
Sequence 8: Secretary
The only telling sign that a Secretary is part of an organisation, is that company executives might start making unwise or outright stupid decisions, that align with their inherent desire to cause misfortune to the people.
I didn’t change anything here.
Sequence 7: Vermin
No changes
Sequence 6: Hypocrite
Attacking the righteous, being unrighteous, claiming to be righteous.
The innocent will slowly die and you will call it karma or divine retribution.
Abilities:
Wither: They can physically cause their enemies or objects (like locks) to wither. This will be moderately harmful, but anyone struck by this attack will literally wither and look like it as well, which means a Hypocrite can attack someone and the target will look like a devil or evil being to outsiders.
Corruptive Fire: They can burn evidence of their crimes or sway people toward corruption.
Improved abilities:
Mental decay: A person attacked by them might also experience mental decay, and be unable to express or prove their innocence due to their reduced mental capacity.
Sequence 5: Harbinger
They have the power to taint the air and surroundings in an oppressive and malevolent aura.
Abilities:
Sermons: Their preachings about doom will always come true, because their Sermons spread misfortune to anyone who hears them.
Improved abilities:
Corruptive fire-> Hell fire: They can summon powerful flames from the depths of hell. These have high attack power, can imbue items to turn them into corruptive and dangerous weapons or burn diseases.
Sequence 4: Idol (False God)
a spiritual betrayal that distracts from genuine faith and often symbolizes human selfishness or greed.
Worship: They can gain power from worship, and can redirect worship from other (human) idols or objects, like statues. With this they can create mystical items with powers through the power of false worship and their own personal corruption. Any person that worships them, wether knowingly or unknowingly with become corrupted with degeneracy, evil and decay.
Spiritual death: For those who have deeply worshipped them, these targets can be granted a Spiritual death (in opposite to a chaos walkers spiritual blessing) taints their spirit completely, turning it irreversibly corrupted yet concealed from even other demigods.
Sequence 3: Lich
Abilities:
Phylactery: Ar advancement they fuse a part of their soul into their Phylactery. At any time, they can use this to resurrect at the price of either a heavy injury to the soul or the lives of worshippers (a sacrifice).
Death Alchemy: They possess several spells in the death domains.
Death toxin: - They can brew Toxins that cause rot and death to anyone who inhales them.
- Toxic clouds could appear to force a Demigod out of their hiding place in a populated area.
Potion brewing: some of their potions might rue others undead, into thralls, or possibly delay someone’s misfortune/death even.
Storm of Decay: They can cause a storm that decays anything caught in it, including abilities or mystical connections.
Undeath: They are in a perpetual state of decay, never living, never dying.
Improved abilities:
Mental decay: Their mental decay has become so powerful that it can even induce delusions in others of the same sequence given enough effort. Additionally, they can now literally show illusions to people, for example to replace their decayed appearance with a that of a righteous hero.
Sequence 2: Angel of Ruin
Authority:
Destruction/Ruin: They grasp a part of the Ruin authority. They specially in bringing ruin through politics and extended decay. This ability can even be “attached“ to a person, making it so that Ruin follows them everywhere. Naturally they are also able to cause decay and ruin to physical structures instantly, it’s just not nearly as strong as usually, since they are meant to borrow strength from organisations they infiltrate. Gradually, they could Destroy entire populations.
Improved abilities:
Mental decay: they are so proficient at infiltration and playing the righteous act that almost nobody would spot them, even if they were to lead a nation under the observation of a deity (as long as the don’t pray to that deity).
Sequence 1: Left Hand of Decay
Using the power of decay to enslave living beings to their Lord, turning them into disgusting creatures loyal to Him.
They are much closer to the Monarch of Decay because of their authority (which works similar to rituals of red priest or proxy of Twilight Giant). As such they are able to borrow part of his power through their Left Hand.
Authorities:
Ruin: They are now capable of channeling the power of ruin, decay from worship directed at them and/or the power of the sefirot. This can 1 hit kill an angel maybe (we’ve seen in CoI how powerful it is)
Corruption: Anyone affected by their power, be it through idolisation or ruin, can transform into mindless creatures and proxies of Decay, perpetuating it eternally.
Sequence 0: Murphy’s Law
Everything that can go wrong, will go wrong.
Authorities:
Corruption: They can corrupt anything or anyone. They can corrupt Beyonder characteristics, faith itself, or somebody’s anchors. Anything that is holy can become unholy and just another source for decay.
Destruction/Ruin: They guide politics from the dark, bringing ruin to entire civilisations passively. Any True God struck by their power will suffer greatly, since such conceptual ruin bypasses any marionettes or otherwise.
Misfortune: They can make fate itself behave in unexpected or usually impossible ways just to bring misfortune to a target. It ensures that every attempt at success or happiness is marred by unforeseen and catastrophic events, pushing the afflicted toward a life steeped in despair and ruin.
Death: this authority is about embracing decay and death, poisoning people’s spirituality.
Idolisation/worship: Anybody who doesn’t believe in another deity faithfully will automatically believe in the Monarch of Decay, unless they restrict themselves to a life without desire (like a monk).
