2016 Golf GTE 12V Battery Question
Not sure if this is an obvious question, but I'm having some trouble with my 2016 Golf GTE.
I've recently moved house away from my charging point and into a terraced property, so my assumption was that the car would be okay being run as a normal petrol car.
I've not driven it for a few weeks and when I tried to start it, I was greeted with several major fault warning lights and the car not starting. When I hook a jump battery onto the points under the bonnet, the car starts as normal.
I've done some very shallow research and understand that owing to the car being a hybrid, it doesn't have an alternator to charge the 12V battery for the starter motor, but relies on the larger EV battery for this power.
This means that when left with a depleted battery and not driven for a while, the car is effectively immobile unless jumped?
Now, I've had the cars infotainment system replaced with an ApplePlay compatible system, which unfortunately has removed the drive selector buttons (meaning that the car starts in EV until battery depletes).
Have I created a problem now where, as I can't easily/regularly charge the battery, I can't rely on the car to start when needed?
