Metallic watercolor gilded hummingbird
depending on light, he becomes more iridescent!

I finally had some free time for myself and off work (digital art!) so I thought that maybe I should try watercolors again?
I know it’s silly of me to try and put digital techniques on watercolors, but I kept trying anyway. This hummingbird was my yesterday’s first attempt. I gave up still yesterday when all I got was this an anemic version of this final piece lol In my sleep deprived brain, I thought I could just put metallic watercolors on white and it’d look decent - obviously didn’t, I got unhappy and gave up.
Today I decided to keep pushing it through the ugly step and darkened everything so the metallic could look better. This is the final result!
I‘m no expert but I feel like there’s something wrong with my pans. They seem dusty after drying on paper, and the color become so much more dull. They also can’t lay over another layer properly; the metallic ones kept removing the other metallic layer. not sure if it’s on the paper or the watercolor…

tried using metallic watercolors to portray a Hylocharis chrysura, gilded humming bird… it’s acts so weird, and all attempts on new layers kept removing the ones below

im a digital artist and im trying to get used to watercolors. they’re fun, but also so humbling...
