My dad was Arab and learned English as an adult when he came to America. Growing up he sounded like everyone else to me. I only started to notice any difference in pronunciation when he started talking about how he couldn't pronounce "P" correctly. After that I began to notice that he had actually had an accent. He passed away decades ago so I can't really listen to how he says things.
I'm curious about how people with ESL parents sounded to them and when the accent came out if ever.
when I was a kid back in the 80s and 90s cars and trucks were always breaking down with random problems. it wasn't uncommon to always see cars on the side of the road with overheating, flat tires, random smoke coming out of the engine, or dead batteries in parking lots where people were walking around looking for a jump. Almost everyone got into the habit of carrying jumper cables and water to pour into the radiator. I remember mechanic shops were always busy with backlogs of work and a car would sit for a week before being looked at.
I still carry jumper cables out of habit but never had the need to use them. My last several cars never really had the 80s problems of overheating or anything that needed constant worry or being stranded on the side of the road.
Was there some turn around in the automotive industry that started producing more overall quality?
I've started pulling parts for Matrix_Builds One Piece 1,000 Sunny but there aren't a lot of detailed photos. At almost 9,000 pieces and $40 for instructions I'm slightly hesitant to keep going on it.
I'm sure that it looks great but I haven't found any actual information from anyone that's already built it. The creator has another ship on FB that looks like it's a million pieces but not anything on this one.
