Which Boys Over Flowers version was actually the best… and which one is unwatchable now?

I randomly fell down a Boys Over Flowers rabbit hole and now I need opinions 😭

For something so terribly cheesy, this story really travelled:

🇹🇼 Meteor Garden (Taiwan, 2001) — the first huge live-action hit
🇯🇵 Hana Yori Dango (Japan, 2005) — back to its homeland
🇰🇷 Boys Over Flowers (South Korea, 2009) — curls, drama, peak chaos
🇨🇳 Meteor Garden (China, 2018) — glossy reboot energy
🇹🇭 F4 Thailand (2021) — the newest take

(And technically it all started as the Japanese manga Hana Yori Dango in 1992.)

My possibly rude opinion:

they were all cheesy.
That’s part of why we loved them.

But some were iconic cheesy,
some were good cheesy,
and some… if I try to watch them now…

> girl, absolutely not.

Fully unwatchable 😭 not just cheesy but full of some unacceptable behavior. Like, wtf is wrong with them and some of the sh*t they’re saying and doing????

I had full-blown second male lead syndrome in both the Chinese and Korean versions — like, aggressively rooting for the “wrong” guy and refusing to recover 😭

Also: whichever one you watched first probably owns a corner of your brain forever.

So:

Which version was best?
Which aged the worst? Like… completely unwatchable now?

And which F4 was the best?
