Question about lease breaking
My mum isn't tech savvy and asked me to post this for her, copy pasting her text.
I given notice at our rental. The current lease ends 25 May 2026. New lease starts 25 May 2026 for 8 months.
Real estate are saying I'm breaking lease and will be subject to costs. We found this information does anyone have any information or experience in this
Initial vs. Subsequent Leases: The law limits costs (pro-rata re-letting/advertising) to the first fixed-term agreement. If you signed new 12-month agreements subsequently, these are often considered renewals, and break fees may not apply, according to Tenants Victoria. https://tenantsvic.org.au/explore-topics/ending-your-tenancy/ending-or-breaking-your-lease/private-rental/
