Did anyone know the new movie was going to come out before the leaks?
Title. My first exposure to The Legend of Aang: The last Airbender was when the whole movie got leaked on twt. I didn't even know the movie existed until that point. What really bothers me is that it felt like 0 marketing went through the project.
I have heard that artists have been working for years, yet when I hear about it, it's not even from the marketing itself. I'm not asking for a whole blown trailer since those usually come out 1-3 months before the movie has its theatrical release, but at least make it well known that the movie will be releasing. Show an image, the backdrop, Aang, anything. It will spread like wildfire on the internet considering how starved ATLA community is.
I could care less from the little snippets I've heard, whether the OG cast isn't VA or the pacing/story sucks - whatever. Just leave a little crumb trail that this project will happen within 2026. With that little crumb trail, fans will be excited to see this in theaters.
Will the sales suffer if the whole movie gets leaked prematurely? Absolutely, there is no other way around it. However, Paramount really dug a hole for themselves by leaving the fanbase in the dark here. At the very least, fans would wait for a theatrical release because they have been fed information to satiate part of their curiosity. I guarantee u more people will pirate the movie because they'd rather see a theatrical release than buy a streaming subscription
